We chose two topics to reflect and have our Peer Mentoring conversation on. The first of these was House Groups and how TC can be used, specifically the use of ground rules. An example was given from someone who had received feedback saying that a particular group “behaved better” with having the rules. The general consensus was that people enjoy having the invitation and permission for silence. We then touched upon how some groups may find it harder to have the rules introduced to them, if they are already functioning and that because of this it can be easier for new groups to accept or follow the rules.

The conversation then led onto the second topic; What do you get or want from Transforming Conversation? This part of the conversation started off with people giving their thoughts on what they already get from being a part of TC. These ranged from being part of a community, that allows us all to explore deeper in a safe space to learning skills to use in outside situations not just within the planned groups. There was acknowledgment of the equality within TC, giving all a just and equal voice, as well as feeling valued and listened to. One thing that someone had gained and would also like to get more of from TC is confidence.   As I wrote this summary a question that came to me was, “Can confidence be a barrier in TC?”.

Ed.Sounds like a helpful question for a future conversation!
